Creating Voice and Choice in the Classroom
with Debbie Miller
September 19, 2019
8:30 – 3:30
This workshop is open to K-5 educators who want to instill a sense of agency, ownership, and independence within children and themselves. If you’re looking to increase student achievement in literacy while focusing on the whole child, this workshop is for you!
Join us for a day of learning what agency is, why it matters, and its connections to student (and teacher) choice and identity. Teachers will leave with:
- A clear understanding of what agency is
- Actions and strategies for nurturing agency and independence within children and themselves
- A deeper understanding of why student and teacher identity matters
- Ideas for creating classroom environments that allow ownership and independence to flourish
Debbie Miller is a teacher, author, and literacy consultant. She taught in the Denver Public Schools for thirty years and is the author of Reading with Meaning, Teaching with Intention, and most recently, What’s the Best That Could Happen?.
