The Resilience of Heroes

I love the old Rocky movies! I know I am showing my age, but my heart still soars when I hear the theme music and see Rocky Balboa charging up the 72 stone steps leading to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Rocky was the consummate underdog – the embodiment of heart and resilience. He was my hero because no matter how many times he was knocked down – he came back swinging with even greater determination. Heroes (real or fictional) always seem to have those two things – heart and resilience.
The word hero actually comes from the Latin verb servo – meaning to serve. Educators are most definitely heroes and heroes are definitely leaders who serve. As the school year ends and summer begins, ERG would like to say thank you to you heroes! Thank you for your heart and your dedication to the students you serve!
Words of affirmation are my “love language,” so I want to take a minute and say thank you to all of you heroes who have taken the time to see the spark in the struggling child, who have problem solved with the oppositional child, who have had the resilience – day after day – to come into the classroom and strive to give the gift of learning. Thank you!
