Course Overview
This institute is designed for teachers in grades K-5. Working together, Laney Sammons and Donna Boucher will provide the nuts and bolts information that teachers need to implement the Guided Math framework. Additionally, they will discuss the instructional strategies and content knowledge needed to help students develop numeracy, become flexible mathematical thinkers, and meet rigorous new math standards.
Teachers will learn how to organize their classroom instruction using the seven components of Guided Math to differentiate instruction in order to meet the needs of all students and to provide ample opportunities for students to engage in essential mathematical practices, develop conceptual understanding, increase their computational fluency, and boost their fraction sense.
Featured Learning Goals:
• Learn how to effectively implement each of the seven components of the Guided
Math framework
• Examine the Guided Math components to determine how each is best used to
support mathematical learning
• Explore ways to structure classroom instruction to maximize the learning of all
students
• Develop an understanding of how formative assessment is used to create fluid,
flexible groups of students for small-group lessons
• Learn how to create small-group lessons to target identified student needs and
allow for spontaneous differentiation when needed
